I sat in with our execs speaking with streaming and film execs of various companies. I’m going to share with you some of the noise I heard from behind the curtain regarding what industry execs say about writers and scripts that get by their Development Executive (DE.)
For the few, none of the following is a secret but for the many, here is how the system for submitting has made some subtle changes, but nothing you can’t handle.
To begin with, within the studios and streaming companies there are 2 people you will need to grab and hold the attention of. The first is the Development Executive the second is the business executives.
Note: forget about the old saying “you have to know someone” to submit a script. In fact, the business execs of film, streaming, cable, and broadcast companies are desperate for original content and do not care who you know.
For the record: the mere fact so many movies are written by people you never heard of is proof it’s time to change your game plan if your current one ain’t working.
To start, no one gets to knock on the door unless they find someone with experience and ability to submit a script. You need a person or company with permission to submit your script.

New rule, your script is NOT the first document a DE will read. Your Development Presentation (DP) is the first document they will review.

?Script: Why will the first 10 pages of your script determine if your script is sent for a full review or Passed on?
The first 10 pages of your script must reveal key entertainment and writing standards a DE will want identified.
