Writer's (Un)Block
I don’t think there is such a thing as writer’s block. I think it’s a lack of information on your subject. There you are dreaming up a plot and suddenly your creativity peters out. It’s not a lack of creativity, it just that you lack the information needed to go forward. I would suggest, if this happens, read history books about the era you are writing about. There you will find a wealth of information, so many things that you didn’t know about, and this will spark your imagination. Also read novels on your subject, not to steal from the author, but to see how that author handled the topic and devised their plot. This will give you ideas of your own. Feed your mind with information. Your imagination is where you live as a writer. You need to stoke the fire, this means fuel. Fuel is all around you. Go for a walk, feed your senses with smells, colors, people passing by. Just drink it all in like a fine wine. A writer notices things that others might not observe. What color are her eyes? Why is that man walking with a limp? Does he have a war injury? Car horns are honking. Is there an accident somewhere? Store all of it in your mind to feed your imagination. Ideas will start forming and within that you will pick out gems to use in your story. Also, ask yourself questions about your plot. If this happens or that happens...where does that lead. What plot idea, even an improbable one, moves your story forward. Most of all, don't panic. Sometimes ideas have to simper in your mind before they come forth for use. Just keep adding fuel...and your imagination will soar.
Stay healthy, eat right, exercise, love your family and enjoy all life has to offer. You are a creative person. You have a lot to say. You have the ability to write and share those stories with others.
?????Happy Writing!

1 年I still say a writer has to feed his or her mind with research and observations so ideas come and with that a story. Either that or grab a good bottle of wine and say the hell with it.

1 年Writer's block means the writer doesn't have a story to tell. You can do all the research you want, but if that concept isn't there, you truly will be blocked.
