Writers: How can writers without an agent submit a script to film & streaming studios? What changes have been made for submitting a script?

Agents are no longer the only person that can submit scripts.

• Who else can submit scripts? Individuals that have credits producing content for major film and streaming companies. i.e. executive producers, showrunners, etc.
• No longer does ("A" list) talent have to be attached to your project for submitting it. There are other options executives are open to considering in place of talent.

Additional changes. What is the first document film and streaming studios will review to determine if your project is accepted for review?

Typically, the first document reviewed is your Development Package.

• Your script is no longer the only document or possibly the first document that will be reviewed.

No matter what you call your package (pitch deck, bible, producer pkg., etc.) ...

• The first page in your Development Package must tell them what they want to know about who is submitting your script.
• Along with information about your project that helps them determine if it meets their creative and production needs.

1. Do I need an agent for submitting my script? No. There are exceptions to having an agent for meeting industry submission requirements.

In past years finding someone to help you with experience and access was extremely difficult.

• No longer is that the case. There are executives all over the place that can assist you. It can be done and is done every day. You just need to decide who you want to assist you.

2. Who do I contact: The Development Executive which all companies have, will want to review Development Package and polish script.

* Note: in most cases their legal may send you a short simple form for to fill out. Once it's reviewed you then submit your project's information.

3. What is required for submitting a script

Your script is not the only or even the first document that industry executives often will want to review first.

Your Development Package is often reviewed before reading your script. It gives a concise overview of how your project meets the creative and production needs of the company you're submitting to.

4. Do I need talent attached to my project? No but there are materials you can attach that is recommended.

• What companies prefer to see your development package and polished script. Other materials that are recommended but are not mandatory: a visual of what your project is about. i.e. concept video, trailer, pilot, etc.
• Also, not mandatory but recommended. To compete with insiders, having a visual, published book version of your script, YouTube channel, or numbers showing public interest in your project can be helpful.

5. Script Polish - Keep in mind the first 10 pages of your script must grab and hold the attention of the executive you're submitting to.
