Writers are like chameleons.
We change colors and take on different personas.
One day we’re writing about tech, and the next, it’s ancient history. We love it. It’s part of the job. But why do clients have to change all the time too?
One moment, they want a tech blog, and the next, a romantic novel. It’s a constant game of catch-up.
Just when you think you’ve got it right, the brief changes. “Make it more formal.
No, more casual. Wait, add humor!” It’s like trying to hit a moving target. Writers adapt, but it’s like dancing with a partner who keeps changing the music. I’ve learned that being flexible is key.
My journey from diary writing to digital marketing expert taught me to thrive amidst change.
Think of a stand-up comedian. They craft a set, rehearse, and then someone says, “Tell more jokes about cats!” They have to pivot on the spot. It’s challenging and can disrupt the flow. Writers face the same with ever-changing requirements. It’s about balancing creativity and consistency.
How do I manage? By focusing on communication and clarity. I understand what the client really wants and adapt without losing the message. This helped me write for top publications like The New York Times and Forbes.
But sometimes you have to be bold with clients. Yes, the ones who don’t know what they want. They change requirements every minute. They don’t deserve it. Don't settle for less than you’re worth. Stand your ground and make sure your creativity isn’t compromised.
Clients, we appreciate you, but let’s find some consistency. Imagine ordering a dish at a restaurant and changing the ingredients five times. The chef would probably toss it out!
So, what should you do?
Be clear about your goals and stick to them.
Trust the process and let the creative flow deliver results. I bring experience to every project, from writing 12 books to founding successful content agencies like Write Right and Dad of Ad.
Ready to work together and make magic happen?
Let’s find the right tone and topic that works for everyone.

3 个月Writing online is incredibly hard and I am in awe of anyone who can make a living from it. Clients need to realise that it takes time to write anything, and also a considerable amount of anxiety. It simply isn't fair to keep changing the brief, tantamount to gaslighting, I should imagine.
