A few weeks ago, while looking for an old write-up, I accidentally picked up one of my old old journals. This journal had writings from 2011 - 2013. In it were content ideas for my first book "Finding Your Sweet Spot," which was published in 2012. In this journal, I had also sketched out what my speaking and coaching business would look like; who I wanted to work with, the topics I wanted to speak on etc.
It's 2023, and all the things I sketched out back then (not knowing how they'd come to pass,) have been achieved plus so much more. Thumbing through this journal sparked an idea; I gathered all my journals I could lay hands on, stacked them in a pile and took the picture above. My first journal (a diary actually) is in the pile and it contains dreams and ideas from 1996 when I started keeping a journal.
The pile pictured above contains the narrative of my life vision written out in the pursuit of different goals.
When the goals, dreams and vision were being written, a lot of them seemed too big to achieve. Looking back and having achieved a lot of them, I'm struck by how we truly can be people of little faith. There are many things I wrote out and steps I was afraid to take but eventually did. Reading my plans from back then and knowing what I know now, I wonder "why was I afraid?" Maybe it's just part of the process.
Writing my vision, goals and dreams gave me something I could refer back to when I got fuzzy in the mind or discouraged by a setback. These writings helped focus my prayer life and relationship with God. I can look back and see Gods faithfulness in my life, which gives me the courage to believe for future bigger things.
Write Your Vision, Dreams or Goals
Many people take this simple act for granted. I don't know why it works, but it does. A vision written down has a much higher chance of being achieved than one which isn't. There's the famous scripture in Habakkuk 2 which says -

"Write the vision and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that reads it."
Writing your vision down will help you clarify and simplify your thoughts. When the vision is simple, it's easy to pass on to others. When it's easy for others to understand, they are quicker to buy-in to it.
I will dive into vision-writing in a future article but for today, I'm simply sharing my vision writing journey with you all. The picture above just warms my heart as I think "wow, 27 years of ideas, goals etc and seeing them come to pass; all in this pile. And there's still so much more to achieve." And yes, I'm still writing.
Write your vision and read it often. As you achieve your goals, write new ones; there's so much ahead of you. Press in with gusto and courage.

1 年Absolutely. Everyday since June 2018. Why? Chiefly, to be able to see on a daily basis, the intentional unfolding of my life. I'm able to track the emerging plot like never before.

1 年I like to buy journals. Then make just to-do lists in them, haha. I never actually end up journaling.
