Write Your Story for 2020
We all have the pen in our hands to write the story of 2020.
And we all have the opportunity to start today and instead of waiting for January 1st.
Of course, there are benefits in grouping our progress in years.
We can look back on 2019 and reflect on the areas where have seen the most growth. Thinking ahead, we analyze our weaknesses and set goals for 2020.
As you look back on the past year, you can decide right now how 2020 is going to end:
- The type of people you will spend your time with.
- The type of people you will attract into your business.
- The clients you will help.
- The projects you will work on.
Preparing for the next year, here are the two big takeaways we can all focus on in our business.
1. Choose your Projects Wisely
Decide now what you are going to work on in 2020.
We all have a set amount of time. Nobody will work 365 days out of the year. Nobody will work 24 hours a day. It’s impossible. You are going to spend time with your family, on vacation, and working on yourself.
First, determine exactly how much time you will be working on your business. Look ahead and be honest with how much time will be spent on work, factoring in extra off days for unplanned events such as sick time or family emergencies. Doing so will help you realize that your time is not infinite.
From there, choose the projects you will devote your time to.
The projects you choose should move your business forward and give you a sense of purpose.
When you set up your calendar and business plan, knowing that you have a finite amount of time in 2020 will help you eliminate time wasters, say no to distractions, and turn down projects that are not in line with your vision.
2. Build Your Brand
If you’ve heard or read my content, you know that when I talk about marketing, I talk about building your brand. Having your own show, along with consistent content, gives you a voice in your community. Keep in mind, you can produce content even on a limited budget.
Don’t let other people define your brand. Write the story of how your business and your brand will look in 2020.
- What type of content do you want to produce? Video, audio, radio?
- What do you want your business to be known for?
- How do you want to be perceived in your community?
- How will you provide value to clients, past, present, and future?
- What type of voice will you have in your community?
Take the time and write that story now.
Then, get to work building a brand bigger than every competitor you have.
The opportunity we all have in front of us for 2020 is unprecedented. There have not been many times in history we've had the chance to choose what we work on and to build the brand we want without restrictions and high overhead costs.
I cannot wait to see what we all do in 2020. What are you working on building?
