Write Your Book Tip 18: Read it Out Loud!

The final post-formatting proofread I mentioned a couple of days ago happens, for my books, when I read the entire book out loud. I walk around, usually outside, and read the book as though I'm creating the audiobook. (Note:?I did that once ?and it was?so hard! I'll probably not do that again!)
Reading your words out loud engages a different part of your brain and will help you to find (a) missing words, (b) extra words, and (c) awkward sentences.
You might even find, as I do, places where I didn't finish a sentence.
The reason I do that post-formatting is because I've been through the book?so many times?I need to see it in a different way—in print—in order to find those last pesky mistakes. (And some still fall through the cracks. C'est la vie. That's what your ART is for, too!)
One other tip is to change the font of your entire manuscript—pre-formatting, of course—which also helps you to see the same content differently.
