WRITE RIGHT

WRITE RIGHT

The biggest asset anyone can be proud to own is that of the art of communicating well, which comprises of speaking, reading, and writing. There are people who speak and read well, but many of them aren’t good at writing. In fact, most people who have tasted success will tell that it is equally important to express oneself in writing to make an impact and advance in life.

Writing is probably one of the biggest gifts that mankind has ever received.

Ask anyone, “Do you write?” The reply is, “I don’t know how to write!”

I can’t believe this, because all people write, but just that the may not be able to convey exactly all they wish to convey. They keep thinking about it, and could spend enormous time practicing it (mentally though, but not actually writing on paper), which is like rowing a boat without untying it from the pole n the shore. That’s where the status-quo is. Real change in oneself begins when this skill gets added to the armory.

It would be worth the while then to ask, “Why do we write?”

There are few answers here (there could be many more though):

Writers write for a lot of reasons, and they differ according to the personality of the writer. While a novelists may write because they are inventive and see the world as inspiration for stories to tell, the writers of articles want to make specific points. What kinds of points they make, through the medium of the article format, are indicative of each writer's needs and desires.

We write to learn, to share our learning with others, to express our creativity, to accomplish our work and the work of others, to make connections — between ideas and between people. Although writing has traditionally been associated with the teaching of English, today we understand that people who write, express themselves in all disciplines not only become better writers, they have the opportunity to process their thinking and to become active learners in all disciplines.

People write for self-expression, to be heard, to find kindred spirits, or in the best of all possible worlds, attract fans. For every decent writer, there is an audience somewhere, and the article is a way to reach that audience. Articles are short, and suitable for the abbreviated attention span of most modern readers. Fewer people read books these days, and writing a book is a lengthy process that not all writers can commit to-- but an article can be written in a relatively short time.

We write to change the world.

Humans have a built in need to make a  mark on the world. We want to bring new things to life, to mold things into the image we have in our imaginations, to subdue the earth. We write not just to change the world, but to create a new world.

There could be some more reasons as well:  Some are angry, and use the word as a weapon against things that make them mad. Some are informed about something that has a message, and use words for empowerment of self or others. Some use it as a form of therapy and write journal-type articles which lay bare their symptoms. Some write them because it's a way to occasionally make some money with your skill or knowledge, or because it's a way to pay for your travel habit. Some people simply write them to express their love, appreciation, or criticism of the things they care about, like food, movements, literature, or whatever.

We write to discover meaning. Writers find meaning for themselves and to help others find meaning. In fact, this has always been the main task of storytellers. Every story matters to the person living it, and our job is to tell the universal stories, the stories that reveal the story of every person on the earth.

Usually writing go through the following stages

Pre-Writing: Any script first emanates in the mind, where the first points are cast. A flurry of thoughts that cross your mind, makes us put pen to paper to jot down the thoughts, so as to add meat to the content, when …rubber hits the road.

Drafting : In this stage there’s more thought brought in to capture all that is to be said, or at least majority of the thoughts we wish to convey. People reading what we write will come to know us better through what they read, because we can never lie to that computer screen or  piece of paper in front of us, and why should we, because we can show love, happiness, joy, hope and all of it is accepted by the paper and the screen without a question asked. Similarly show of hate and that too  is accepted without a word asked, but without hiding it shows vengeance, ugliness, evil, perversion, and many more negative, but why do it?

The next step is Revising : Why Do We Write? We write to be fully alive. Writing draws us into the moment. It also is perhaps the most credible of all communication forms, as it get’s down in black and white. History is made in writing casting the future on mankind.

Then comes Editing : This gives us a chance to change anything from thoughts, words, intent, purpose or whatever. It allows us to rectify errors that may have crept in unknowingly.

Finally Publishing : If we’re being honest, we would agree that it would be nice to live forever. But if we can’t live forever physically, then why can’t our memory live forever? We’re still talking about Chaucer, Virginia Woolf, Mark Twain, and George Elliott long after their deaths. Why not us? While this might not be the most unselfish of motivations, it’s certainly natural. to be talked about, to be remembered after death, to get your own back on the grown-ups who snubbed you in childhood, etc., etc.” That’s part of it, but where the motivation goes much deeper than being well-liked in the present moment.

As for me I write because I love writing, I write because I feel these words speak to you, and am able to share my feelings with all of you who is reading this. Trust you will enjoy reading this and strat putting "pen to paper," from your mind.

Good one Mr. Raman. In computer era people have forgotten to write. People have lost touch with good language especially the youth as they use abbreviations of English words in CHAT like LOL, abt, BFN, AAMOE, AAL, AEAP. This article should make the youngsters realize what it means to write well in English.
