Write Easier, Write Faster, Write Better, Part 5

Write Easier, Write Faster, Write Better, Part 5

I've been doing weekly newsletter series for a few weeks now. I'm curious—do you enjoy them? Look forward to them? Save them for reference later? I'd love to know, so please leave a comment and let me know. I'm also curious to know, if you do like them, what topics I should write about next?

Earlier in this series, I mentioned The Nifty 15, which found its way into the world from a conversation I had with my co-author, Brian D. Meeks. We were discussing how some people never get around to writing and we agreed that, no matter what, everyone almost always has fifteen minutes they can find to write (and almost every single day).

Now I know there are exceptions to this, so please don't write me back and tell me your tale of "the day you were too busy to "xyz"" because I get it, I see you, I've been there, too.

And, I'm pretty sure when I want to do something I find a way. Or, I'll find an excuse. Perhaps you can relate to that, too.

ANYWAY.

My tip for today is to find a writing buddy and suggest you do writing sprints with your writing buddy.

When March of 2020 rolled around, I was hosting the Empire Builders Mastermind for only the second year. People started to say they couldn't get out of bed, or off the couch . . . the world was too depressing and they just didn't feel like writing, working, or doing basically anything.

You know what? I've been there, too. But if you don't get out of bed, after awhile they will come for your bed!

So, I decided to host a morning writing session for everyone who wanted to join in. We'd meet at 5:58 a.m., say good morning, write for an hour, and at 7 a.m. say our good-byes and get on with our day (or go back to bed). We did this for half of March, and all of April, May, June, July, and August—all the way through my September birthday. Turns out, that daily hour of productivity produced several books, many new business ideas, and several members had their best year up to that point.

Why? Because rain, shine, sleet, or snow, we showed up to write. And write we did! Five days a week, week in and week out, we wrote. I published three books that year and helped with a slew of others. It was the fact we were meeting with each other, that meant we showed up (even when we didn't want to!). It worked, and it's a strategy that continues to work.

If you're committed to writing, and you can find someone else equally as committed to writing, schedule appointments with each other. You will make faster progress, have someone to cheer you on (and vice versa) and you'll bond with someone awesome to boot!

I love my author buddies and writing friends and I know you'll love building a small-but-mighty community to help you get to the finish line. Because you're going to love being an author!

As has been said before, there's no better inspiration than getting your butt in the chair in front of your keyboard (notepad). I definitely found your series useful. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Wow, what an awesome idea! I typically struggle to stay consistent with my writing because I tend not to schedule in the time. Now I'm feeling inspired to find some writing buddies to meet consistently and hold me accountable. Thank you for a simple yet powerful and motivating idea!

I have saved this entire series and shared it with others! It’s a great tip to get into the practice of writing.
