Today I'm going in a different direction to help you write easier, faster, and better by sharing a focus technique I recently discovered: ASMR. If you don't know what it is, you can read more here.
I love listening to different ASMR soundtracks because they help me focus focus focus, i.e., write the words.
While open to debate, I do not believe writer's block is a thing (just like optometrist block or truck driver block isn't a thing...). I do know some people struggle with being creative on demand!
My tip is to discover how to put yourself in a peak writing state on demand. Yes, you can change how you're feeling and what you're doing almost instantly, if you discover your own personal recipe for doing same.
I discovered the ability to trigger a state way back in the early '90s when I started attending Tony Robbins' seminars. With the right song, I would be dancing in my chair. With another, I'd tear up and feel depressed. I used that as an excuse to figure out how to switch from anger to gratitude, frustration to fearlessness, and also from "I'm not awake / don't feel like writing" to "Fingers. Keyboard. Let's do this!"
Music is one awesome tip for getting yourself in the right mood (or state) to write. I'm now self-trained to get a fresh cup of joe (Texas Pecan), turn on my writing playlist, and write.
If you can write to your favorite band or artist, do it! If you want to identify another way to get yourself in a peak writing state in 30 seconds or less, try ASMR. Just search for ASMR + [insert keyword here]. You can find everything from blowing bubbles, whispering, classical music, and even someone writing with a fancy pen.
As an aside, I have also found that if I really need to write and I'm stuck, a nap or a walk or both really get my creative juices flowing again.
Do you have a tip for getting into your peak writing state? I'd love to know about it—leave it in the comments! I'll be back tomorrow with my final tip!

2 年Another tip to get yourself into "writer mode" can be location or food. I used to write at a different desk than I used for other work, and a cup of tea, rather than my daily coffee, would further put me in the right frame of mind. And if I'm short on time and need to sprint I fire up the pomodoro timer! I love your phrase and plan to implement write easier, faster, better as a mantra.
