They say LinkedIn is a professional platform. But for
Rose M.
, it's a place where she unaplogetically talks about the different shades of her life. Beyond the professional angle, she seamlessly unravels the spectrum of her life experiences on LinkedIn - from successful client stories to the storms she weathered.
What made her choose the less-trodden and risky path of a social media storyteller? How did she draw inspiration from a personal tragedy that could otherwise have been earth-shattering for a youngster? Rose shares her story.
- How do you define your role as a content creator, and what inspired you to pursue this path?Since childhood, I have been ambitious about becoming a writer who is truthful about expressing the real emotions in the writeups. As a content creator, I intend to be raw, real & unapologetically myself. The world has a lot of creators who spread positivity, but less of the ones who aren’t afraid of sharing the negativity. I’m in the latter group.?Throughout my creator life, I shared about mental health issues, death, pain of loss & many social issues that one couldn’t simply read while sipping hot coffee on a lazy Sunday morning. But that’s reality and I want to share more of it as many who read me feel that they aren’t suffering alone.?
- What strategies do you employ to consistently generate fresh and engaging content for your audience?Overthinking is my biggest strength as a creator. No matter how busy I am, I make sure to have at least an hour of me-time daily. There are minutes or hours daily in my life when I do nothing but think.?I get thousands of content ideas while I simply sit and think. Of those, the ones that are strong enough to come up in my head when I have a notepad or laptop with me survive.Along with this, consuming content helps me a lot. Fiction is like oxygen for me as a writer. On the days I read great fiction books, I write better. Also, I read at least 50 content pieces from social media every day.?
- Can you share a memorable moment in your content creation journey that brought you immense satisfaction? My Uncle fondly called me by my pet name and said that he was proud to be my Uncle. When someone who doesn’t compliment others easily like him complimented me after reading my content for around a year, I felt happy and satisfied.
- How do you overcome creative blocks or challenges when generating content?I view creative blocks as sambar which I ignore every time I eat masala dosa with coconut chutney. Yes, sambar will be served on the table, but I ignore it as I don’t like it.?Similarly, I ignore creative blocks as I don’t have the luxury of slowing down and pampering the creator in me to get over the block. It’s a luxury when you must ghostwrite content every day. It’s a luxury when clients wait for your work every day. It’s a luxury when your audience waits for your content every day.So, whenever I sniff a creative block at a distance, I engage more on LinkedIn, spend more time interacting with other creators and read more content. That helps me write at least four pieces instead of ten without compromising on quality.?
- Are there specific life experiences that have shaped your content creation style or approach? My life before losing my father to cancer and after that terrible experience is entirely different. Most of my memorable content was about the love between father and daughter. He was my muse.?Ever since his loss, I couldn’t write in my mother tongue - Malayalam. Each time I try to, I feel as if thorns prick my fingers. But I somehow write in English.?I became extremely bold and carefree while writing after the major loss in my life. Even while writing this, I cringe as it is extremely personal, but still, that cringy feeling doesn’t stop me from writing it.?I became brave and stopped thinking too much about long-term outcomes and started writing freely after this tragedy.
- Does music or any other creative ritual play a role in your content creation process?I love music and listen to it for at least fifteen minutes daily. Also, I watch movies and series frequently which influence my creativity. But I love the calm and silent vibe while writing.?
- Are there books or authors who have significantly impacted your content creation philosophy? Among the many authors I read, picking a favourite is challenging. But two writers who touched my teenage self are Khaled Hosseini and K R Meera. The way Khaled Hosseini takes us to a different world through his descriptive content writing style is mindblowing. His sorrowful stories touched my soul and made my teenage self internally cry many times.K R Meera is an expert in realistic storytelling. I can never be Rose, but the female characters she wrote while reading her fiction books. Each story is written in a way that it’s a revenge to someone. The analogies, the repetition and the fire she radiates through each sentence make me say WOW.
- How do you maintain originality in your content, especially in a world filled with information?I don’t write the first draft immediately after consuming content. I need to be comfortable in my space. I shouldn’t be hungry. I shouldn’t be in a hurry -That’s when I usually write the first draft. After batch-creating around 10 such content pieces, I take a break or do other tasks. Later, I work on the final draft where I check the originality of the content.?It’s not possible to create 100% original content. But when you are aware of the content you consume, you can easily figure out if your content lacks originality.?
- In one sentence, what does being a content creator mean to you personally?Being able to express myself fearlessly.?
- What’s your take on AI??AI can be a great assistant to us. But if we become over-dependent on it, the output won’t be great. Instead of making the AI do the majority of the work, consider it as just an assistant.
