It seemed as if the new year was just being born,

But in a few more days, January will be gone.

And if we don’t get up to speed pretty fast,

The days in our future... Well, they will have passed.

?

The end of the financial year is still far away.

But Father Time does not stand still, or stay.

Time to dust off the unfinished task list for review.

Is there something to be taken out, or added anew?

?

Budget Time! Nickel and Dime?

The Budget – an annual exercise – is a trainload of expectations

Concessions and incentives and a buffet of other applications.

Irrespective of actual, measured need, everyone expects more.

So, someone has to get less, all in the name of evening the score.

?

Healthcare is normally allocated a lot less than it deserves.

Policy preferences don’t make it a priority, every expert observes.

This is despite several studies that link a nation’s wealth...

With the well-being and state of its people’s health.

?

This year is likely to not be particularly different

Look at the share of GDP on healthcare , that is spent.

?

Fist-pumps and Speedbumps…

India rightly prides itself on being the pharmacy to the world.

Its primacy has prevailed no matter what challenge that is hurled.

However, most innovator companies are choosing the biologics road...

A track that on which the pharma industry’s momentum may be slowed.

?

Companies in the US have longer lead times before being subject to price control.

The period for profits over an extended time puts these companies on a roll.

On formulations within our own shores, new price controls have been enacted.

It seems unclear as yet, if and on whom the costs if any will be extracted.

?

Digitally Capable and Service Deliverable…

Food delivery apps and services have been quite the rage,

Perhaps it’s a sign of the times in this modern digital age.

That one kind of delivery service begets another type,

Even if it doesn’t quite generate the same kind of hype.

?

On another front, the digital revolution in healthcare gathers pace...

100 million medical records are now linked to healthcare’s public face!

This is a significant in the creation of electronic medical records.

The expanded database effects will generate several needed rewards.

?

End Note

For the rest of the month, the nation is holding its collective breath.

It’s possible that many people’s hopes will meet a crushing death.

Others – yours truly included – are taking this as a much-needed break.

Time for some relaxation, spa visits and left-over Christmas cake.

?

Until next week, here’s to heady living, beaches and glowing sunsets
Tall cool drinks and long dinners, and after that the clock will be reset.
