The chef who wows customers with her dishes is doing it out of her own accord. She seeks to bring her art to the table every time she cooks and her dishes are a reflection of her joy for cooking and experimenting. For her, compliments are a by-product of her creation, not the main thing.

The pleaser seeks to please at all costs. They don't mind cutting corners, treating people as pawns to get what they want. When you get into the habit of pleasing, it's a downward spiral. Then, the aim moves from 'what the best solution' to 'whatever it takes to make you happy. Hangers-on fall into this category.

Seeking to wow and seeking to please taken you on diametrically different journeys.
