The Wound

I met John Trengove in Cannes in 2014 thanks to his producer, Elias Ribeiro (Urucu Media), and I had no idea I was making the acquaintance of such a talented movie director. At the time, I was mostly impressed by John's discretion and modesty. "The Wound" has just been released in France by Pyramide (éric Lagesse), and I cannot say I was dying to see it. But in fact, after a few minutes into the story, I was hooked and really seduced by the harmony, by the beauty, and by the intensity of the story and its characters. The actors are admirably directed and I immediately sympathised with all of them, interested not only in the painful love story, but also in the richly documented exposé of the Xhosa rite of passage. I sincerely hope "The Wound" will reach its audience and I encourage film lovers to book their showtime this weekend.
