Wouldn't It Be Nice to Have a Drama-Free City Hall?
Are you tired of hearing about interns, late night texts, DWIs, who gave money to Trump and having copies of a sordid affidavit left on your windshield?
I know all of these are a lot more sexy and interesting than talking about the City's $435 million operating deficit last year or the details of how the drainage fees have been diverted. I get it. Things like infrastructure investment, campaign finance reform and zero-based budgeting don’t make good headlines or sound bites. But they are the things that are going to affect your quality of life and the future of our City.
“Energy and backbone” nor “lifting up every voice” are going to balance the budget or protect our citizens from rising violent crime and floodwaters. They are not a plan to fix our streets or get the garbage picked up on time.
Sure, we need to clean up the pay-to-play corruption and cronyism that has gotten so much worse under the current administration. That will only be accomplished through meaningful campaign finance reform. But cleaning up corruption alone will not solve the serious problems our City is facing.
I don’t know about you, but I have reached a point in my life where I have little tolerance for drama. If you elect me as your mayor, there will be none in the next four years. Instead there will be a calm, and perhaps at times even boring, discussion of how we make our City Hall work again. But wouldn’t that be nice?
The polls open at 7AM tomorrow morning and will close at 7PM tomorrow evening. Remember that you can vote at any polling place this year. For a link to an interactive map to find one convenient for you click [here].
Fewer than 10% of Houstonians have voted so far. Your vote will never count for as much as it will this election.
So, if you have not voted yet, please go today and cast a vote for a drama-free City Hall. And please call all of your family and friends and encourage them to do the same.
