?I have a question to ask you. You're part of a company somewhere in the organization. You may be in human resources, or you may be part of product management. Maybe you're in sales, well, everybody's in sales, or perhaps you're an entrepreneur and own a business like me. Here's the pivotal question that you must always ask yourself, and this question takes some courage to step out of our world. Take a deep breath, step back, and ask yourself this question. It means clearing our minds. It means taking that literal and metaphorical deep hitting the reset button because this question could change outcome and destiny. Okay, that's a lot. I get it. Ready? Here it is.
Would you do business with you?
You heard me. In other words, put yourself in your customer's shoes. And by the way, that's not easy to do. That takes some honest introspection. Sometimes, we take it for granted that customers do business with us. We just become a little complacent. I see complacency out there all the time, and I don't think people wake up in the morning and say, "Hey, I'm going to be complacent today, or I'm going to be lazy today." It's not what I'm saying. So understand this. What I'm asking is to put yourself in your customer's shoes. Can you do that? Do you have the courage to do that?
Would you do business with you?
This is for more than the external customer because you may not be customer-facing. You have internal customers nonstop. Everybody in the organization comes to you, or you go to other people to help get things done, right? That's how business operates. That's not news; that's not a secret. Nobody can do their whole job in a vacuum, and indeed, we know what I think about silos.

Silos kill companies, and silos are a mentality that says, “I'm just the” or “not my job.”
So, I will return to the question: would you do business with you? And if you think without any hesitation, the answer is yes, congratulations, and I will challenge you. And that doesn't make you a bad person. It doesn't make you a non-productive person. It means that a company's ability to be successful, which starts with internal collaboration because that brings down the silos and then makes it easy for the customer to do business with the organization. That all begins with you answering this pivotal question. Would you do business with you? I ask myself that question all the time. Listen, I'm an entrepreneur and must ask myself that question constantly.
I ask myself, "HOW am I making it easy for somebody to do business with me?" I pride myself on that. Do you make it easy to do business with yourself? And by extension, does that make it easy to do business with the company? I will ask the question one more time, and then I will leave you with the proverbial mic drop. Would you do business with you? I dare you to step back and consider that question.
