Would you pay your employee to search for a new job?

ok, maybe I am na?ve, and not schooled on how we pay our Elected Officials.

Being concerned as to what the overall outcome of the upcoming election I am wondering if those running for office have suspended their salary, while actively seeking a higher position of influence?

 Cruz: Senator,  Kasich: Governor, Sanders: Senator, Rubio: Senator the many others that were paid elected officials Even as of late Chris Christie behind Donald what seems to be, every press conference...

I realize to become the President, is a huge undertaking, however to be paid for the job you previously sought, that now you seek to abandon (which will create a special election that costs more of MY $$$$) Are they still collecting a pay check, and if we go as far as the entitlement of Group Health Benefits, are they calculating the minimum required hours of engagement? 

Just wondering....
