Would you like your Amazon, Fresh?

Would you like your Amazon, Fresh?

Here is another reason to be an Amazon Prime member, Amazon Fresh is now under 15$ U.S. a month for subscription members.

Amazon Fresh was rolled out this summer in the UK and to select cities across the U.S. Amazon's secret plan to rival the likes of FedEx, UPS, and logistics companies is not so secret any more.

In an age of Google coming to the Home, the idea of ordering groceries is seeing more mainstream adoption. If Google is the instantaneous access to information, Amazon plans to have fulfillment centers to order anything you need, nearest you.

The Google of Consumables

For Amazon to have its own logistics system where:

Amazon aims to build a full-scale shipping and logistics network that will not only ship products ordered from Amazon, but also will ship products for other retailers and consumers...

It's positioning itself to be the Google of products, which it already is in a sense with Ecommerce growth. Beating competitors at their own game, is nothing new for Amazon.

Consume the City

In a world destined to have self-driving vehicles in the 2020s, robot delivery of goods through such a network is pretty much inevitable. Yes that means a lot of our basic needs pretty much automated.

Not only will Amazon consume our cities, it will be a deal for us! Amazon having its own delivery system would ensure that for holiday shopping and its Amazon Prime day held in July, everything would be perfect.

Grocery Stores for Amazon Fresh Customers

Amazon will also open up grocery stores for its Amazon Fresh customers. Amazon opening up 100 pop-up stores in 2017 and this truly signals Amazon as a brick-and-mortar retail player.

The tech pop-up stores and the grocery stores have to be seen as an extension of the network it is creating, the ubiquitous brand that Amazon is becoming as the innovator pushing Ecommerce and omnichannel to new levels, basically establishes itself as a company of the future that can continuously pivot expanding into new verticals.

The Price of Going Amazon

Amazon Fresh would be $180 (12 x $14.99) added to the existing Prime subscription of $99, that's only $279 a year or $23.25 per month, less than the subscription of most gyms. Clearly, Amazon puts so much added value into its subscription model that retention and revenue are a given.

Amazon has tested Amazon Fresh rigorously, and there's no reason why it cannot and won't scale to a major city near you soon. London was a major center for testing, and it seems many existing Prime members will be tempted to go Fresh as well.

One Step Closer to the End-Game

With companies such as Amazon and Google, it's always about the end-game, and we can no longer consider Amazon as an internet retailer or cloud computing player, they've successfully pivoted to being an innovation corporation, the most important kind of company to fuel the future.

Coming for the Neighborhood Grocer

Whether you like groceries delivered or like to choose the best yourself, Amazon is coming for your neighborhood's grocery stores and Amazon Fresh is a big part of completing the circle in its total retail domination.

Honey, the food is here!

From Amazon Fresh's customer reviews, we can conclude it's still a work in progress, but if anyone can dominate the grocery delivery business, it's Amazon.

Would you like your Amazon, Fresh? Is $14.99 a month a good price?

For non-produce this might be a convenience, but at what cost? Anyone who eats fresh food like myself is going to hit up the store for meat and veg anyway and since I'm there, why not save the delivery fee and get the rest of it too?

Food delivered blindly (meaning you don't get to actually pick out what you want) through Amazon may be good in a pinch, but I wouldn't want to totally depend on it.

This could be a wolf in sheep's clothing. This, coupled with the recent news of Amazon leasing airplanes to begin its own airfreight operations.
