TOPIC: Revolutionizing Automotive Paint Quality: Automated Defect Detection and Robotic Paint Repair Solutions

Continuous improvement in manufacturing technologies and processes is critical to staying competitive in a world where speed and flexibility are essential. At Eines Vision Systems, we are committed to achieving what we call the "state of the art" in manufacturing quality, and one of the most critical areas is the automotive paint shop.
We know that the painting process is one of the most complex in an automotive plant, involving an average of 6 hours, 200 robots, and around 2,000 worker [Soy moto, 2020]. So how can we guarantee top-quality results without millimetric defects going unnoticed?
New Technologies for Better Detection
Thanks to our partnership with 3M and ICEMI, we have integrated visual inspection solutions and automated paint repair systems. Some of these systems have achieved 95-99.9% defect detection rates across various colors and body types. This data is automatically recorded and assigned to robots based on their optimal position and availability [3M].

How does this automation start? Once the car is painted, it should pass through our paint inspection tunnel equipped with high-resolution cameras and LED lights. This system captures thousands of images per second, processed using proprietary logarithms and deep learning to identify, position, and classify defects. This process takes only a few seconds and is immediately displayed visually.
Automated Repair with 3M Auto Repair
The next step is defect repair, using the data generated by the Eines Tunnel, such as position, size, and type of defect. Through 3M’s automated systems, robots can perform exact repairs that outperform manual techniques, eliminating human errors and adapting to the type of defect or substrate.
The Work of ICEMI: The Key to Seamless Automation
When it comes to automating complex processes like paint shop quality control, the role of a skilled integrator is indispensable. Integrating a vision system with robots and repair tools may sound straightforward, but it requires technical expertise and in-depth knowledge of hardware and software. A good integrator bridges the technology and real-world application, ensuring all components work perfectly to achieve optimal results.
Tailored Customization
We understand that every plant is different, which is why our systems can be customized to meet each client's specific needs.
But it’s better to see it than to just hear about it, which is why we invite you to join our webinar on September 25th. Learn more about these emerging technologies and get the chance to ask our team any questions you may have.
