Would you hire your own self as a coach?

For 26 years I chewed tobacco and at the same time coached people to be healthy.

Here I was telling my clients “how to be healthy” what it meant to take care of themselves but behind closed doors I was chewing tobacco daily and not even taking care of myself.

I did it thinking I could hide it and not face the reality of how it would catch up to me.

However, after 26 years of pretending like I didn’t see the truth I started to see the real man in the mirror.

The one who was lying to everyone around him including himself.

Integrity to me meant realizing everything I was preaching was being directed right back at me.

The person who is screaming at you to be a certain way? Generally have something they are lacking in their own lives.

Often we scream the advice at our audience and even our clients that we need to be taking ourselves.

Everyone is a supposed expert nowadays.

But would you really hire a personal trainer who is 350 lbs overweight?

Would you hire a financial advisor who is up to their neck in debt?

It’s too easy to hide behind our social media profiles and preach a message we don’t follow ourselves.

You might have temporary success with a really powerful message but I can tell you through the experience of watching others, a business burns to the ground when the message isn’t practiced and lived by the one who preaches it.

So what if you didn’t have a sales problem, a lead gen problem, an ads problem, what if the only problem you had to face was your integrity or lack of?

Personal success creates business success, not the other way around. And personal success starts with us coaches, leaders, doctors and business owners following our own advice.
