Story

Before this client started working with me, they had been “trying and failing” miserably to make their Coaching/ Consulting business work for 18 months.

You’ve tried and failed at a few things in your life before right?

We all have.

That’s trying and failing for 13,140 consecutive hours!

Ultimately, that's trying to do something and failing for almost 2 years straight!

Now I don’t know about you but my days on this earth are limited and spending two precious years of my life trying and failing at something just isn’t a game I want to sign up for.

The reason I used the words “trying and failing” when referring to this clients situation is because their business wasn’t something that was self sustained.

The best way I can describe it is like this:

Their business was like one of those white 50ft yachts that was:

out in the middle of the Atlantic ocean 500 miles away from shore in either direction

***with a hole in the bottom the size of a kitchen sink which was gushing cold freezing water into the yacht.

Here’s what I mean by this.

This client was heavily dependent on their finite savings to make their business work.

In fact, when they first started their business they had $70k of savings in the bank.

And over the course of the long, harsh & brutal 18 months that they were trying to make their business work, that number dropped down to:

$60k…

then $50k…

then $40k…

then $30k…

then $20k…

then $18k…

...until they hit their "panic number."

You know that panic number right?

It’s one that we all have.

It’s where when your bank account goes below that number, you freak out and go into panic mode and every night you sleep like a baby.

You: "What does sleep like a baby mean Extus?”

Extus: Oh you’ve never heard of that saying before?

You: I can’t say that I have.

I remember now...

Back to their panic number.

Well for this client, their panic number was $15k…

And why, $15k?

Well it’s because that meant that they only had 3 more months worth of financial security before:

sh!# got real… and sh!# hit the fan.

What I mean by this is that if they didn’t figure out something fast, they would have to drop everything and scramble to either get a job or borrow money from a family member or friend or their worst nightmare would come true.

They’d have to give up on it all.

So you see, for 18 months, they did the best they could with what they knew, and despite their best and honest to God effort, they just couldn’t catch the break they needed to get their business to generate enough income to sustain itself.
