Have you seen questions like this posted in your break room or communal areas at work?
There are many employees who ask leadership for an onsite gym. In fact, as the health coaches behind the wellness program, WE get asked this question quite often.
While adding a gym may seem like a great idea to support employee wellness, there are many reasons why it might not be feasible to install one in your building.
First, the cost of setting up an onsite gym can be prohibitive. Whether you purchase or lease equipment, there are still maintenance and upkeep costs associated with that. This can add up to a significant expense, especially for smaller businesses.
Second, there are legal and safety concerns that come with running an onsite gym. Ensuring that the equipment is up to safety standards and that employees are trained to use it properly is going to require some training and education.
Third, there is the issue of space. Depending on the size of your building, it may be difficult to find a suitable location for a gym. Things that must be taken into account are the noise level, ventilation, and other factors that could affect the comfort of employees working nearby.
Finally, it's important to consider whether an onsite gym would actually be used by employees. Because while it might seem like a popular perk, not everyone is interested in using a gym.
It's important to weigh the costs before making a decision. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t practical solutions for everyone on your team. And that’s what I’ll be sharing in my next article - stay tuned!
