A worthwhile read about Panic Buying
Dear Friends and Clients (one in the same)
So, I guess Americans coming together in times of crisis, fell on deaf ears for a lot of people. Maybe it was just too much to ask!
Whatever happened to: "One for all and all for one?"
So from my perspective, here's a proposed answer. Please read this article. It is from a reporter at the Arizona Republic. This is only one page of the article but certainly explains why there's limited food, no toilet paper or paper towels, long lines to get in or out and virtually nothing left on the shelves at our local grocery stores.
I have been around for a number of decades, and I have never seen anything like this before. Frankly it's embarrassing! I had to spend some time trying to understand what's going on in people's minds.
This is one of the best explanations I have ever read. All of us know, maybe ourselves included, fit into this category. Please read the part about losing control and if you follow “the pack” then you feel you have some control over the crisis.
So, from a sociological perspective, what's going on here is pretty fascinating. I hope we all don't buy into this, to the degree that we see so many people around us doing. It is not healthy. It is counterproductive, and not what this country/OUR country is all about.
We must... "Be calm and carry on."
