A worthwhile career in Supply Chain

Global Supply Chain & Operations Executive _ COO | Scaling Businesses, Driving Cost Optimization, High-Performance Teams & Digital Transformation | Expertise in Manufacturing, eCommerce, Automotive & Logistics
I have recently celebrated a fruitful 28-year career in supply chain and want to use this space to inspire newly graduated students to explore a career in supply chain, as well to use this channel to say thanks to a few of the great leaders, supporters and colleagues along my career.
One of the most important systems in modern society, supply chains are bringing food, materials and products around the world to the doors of industries and consumers. Supply Chains are being reimagined through use of technology and overhauled to prevent disruptions, to improve lead-times, to reduce costs, and not less important, to improve social and environmental conditions.
Along the thrilling journey, the road was not always smooth, there were challenging hills, curves, U-turns, rain and snowstorms. It was possible to reach the 250km/hour on German Autobahn, in other moments was possible to tune the radio to enjoy the view and even to take a ride on unicorn-rocket start-up. In this process, I am grateful for having the chance to navigate a few different industries as the FMCG, automotive, logistics service and e-commerce. ?It took me around the world, I am now checking in for a new flight.
If you want to pursue a career in supply chain, a great place to start is by identifying what industry you are most passionate about, Retail? Tech? e-Commerce? Cars? Food? Every industry has its own supply chain architecture. There are many ways you could approach it, you could become a cost optimization expert, a sustainability consultant, a logistics network designer, an international trade agent, a digitalization & automation product manager, a data analytics, an agile logistician, an operations manager and many others. These different roles act together as part of supply chains. Being able to manage it and to observe it holistically with a multi-angled perspective, will enable you to identify value, improve industries and business as a whole career in supply chain. ?
This is not a journey that you ride alone. You will encounter fantastic people that inspires, support, push you to the challenge, and celebrate along. People as Edgard Prado , Ricardo Amary , Josana T. , Steve Valentine , Puvaneaish Subramaniam , terry bloomer , Mark Stevens , Pamela Dow, CSCP , Armando Murillo CPIM , Jon Karel , Frank Vorrath , Victor Hugo Teixeira Moraes , Antoine Comar , Olivier Petra , Kelvin C. , Gabriela Guimaraes, PMP , Mariana Adensohn , among several other that marks unforgettable milestones in my career - professionals, leaders, partners and friends I had the honour to ride with.
A career in supply chain will make you thrive by using logical and creative problem solving, data analytics, build relationships, negotiate, but more, it will make you meet people, collaborate, learn and accomplish unthinkable things together. If you are starting your career, just take some time to learn more about supply chains and join this place where the magic happens.
