Not Worth the Notification

The algorithm benefits no one. Many have their posts suppressed for no good reason. As a single man with no children I am used to being ignored. Receiving a notification that my most recent post- the one published the night before- received twelve impressions- write like no one is watching.

Because they aren't. There was a time when Notifications had value. Instead of seeing who responded to a comment I am told who reposted a photo. Nine times out of ten that does not apply to me.

It's great that a connection is mentioning someone they know is looking for work. I really do not have leads. It is better than the announcement my latest post had twelve impressions.

What next? "Upgrade to Premium to see who else could not care less about your contributions." Don't give them ideas. One of my most viewed connections cannot find work and it is bringing him down. He is active on this site to no avail.

There might be more chance at a Penthouse Forum scenario than finding a job through LinkedIn. You have to let the women come to you- stop hitting on married women. Possible, not probable.

Just like finding a job on LinkedIn. Anything is possible. What about distributing posts? There are probably updates from first degree connections I am not seeing. If I commented before, they move up the list.

What if someone took time away and I miss their return post? They are ready to engage and the ones who like and supported them before are not here to see what they are doing now.

Does it pay to post? If you have something to say. If you use LinkedIn because there is a fantasy you will move to the top of some list- most of the so called "Top Bananas" use pods and plagiarize others in the courses they sell. Writing is one of the few "Til death do us part" scenarios I have in this life.

You cannot control who sees anything. I have tagged specific people when the post pertains to them. They have seen it, their network does not. Hashtags are completely useless. Impressions are a made up number. Write for yourself. Sometimes that is your entire audience.

Writing moves me forward so if someone sees it: great. If they don't- it is out of my control. When I used hashtags it felt like I was getting someone drunk so they would like me. They still were not interested. Hashtags are useless on this site.

What has value? Conversations and ideas. I have not benefitted from "If you comment a lot, the algorithm will take notice." That is a fool's errand. No one knows why anything is distributed and it is foolish to ask why. I do not want them bragging that barely anyone had the opportunity to see my latest article.

Tell me nothing instead of giving writers table scraps. It's not like I want to be a Top Voice. It will never happen and that game is rigged towards cheaters. I would rather have two readers than a bunch of AI girlfriends telling me how great I am. Don't love anything that won't love you back.
