I promise to have done research but can't comfirm definitively about this: Did Arnold Palmer ever played in the, long-defunct, International Golf Tournament played annually at the Castle Pines Golf Club? In those days, as a sports guy at CBS Denver, International week? I had a blast. Nobody else on the station sports staff was into golf. I was down there every day. I think Arnie played, or at least was around back in the late 80's and early 90's. I recall being in group interviews with him. But I'm kinda old and maybe getting stories mixed up. Anyway, what I recall is realizing what a great guy this golfing legend was. Revered. A great statesman, not only for the game but for life in general. A benevolent and beloved human being. Why the mention of Arnie's legacy? Bryson DeChambeau won Arnie's annual tournament today on the PGA tour. The current golf game-changer idolized Palmer growing up. You could see the long-ball hitter's emotion erupt upon flushing a pressure-packed five-foot putt on the 72nd hole. This, was no ordinary victory. This was winning a prestigious tournament honoring a man who lived a life worthy of emulation. Arnie died more than five years ago but it's obvious his spirit is alive and well in current golfers like the former Southern Methodist-University product. Let's strive to live lives worthy of emulation. Who knows, it might impact someone else like Palmer has influenced innumerable. Including today's winner on the PGA tour. #goodbetterbest
