WAS IT WORTH ATTENDING AN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ?

I have just returned from the Dwyer Group conference and thought I would put my thoughts down. I can hear certain people thinking oh no what is he going to say

1. Trust is the foundation of business, if you show trust people will trust you. If you try to stitch everyone up they will feel it's OK to do the same to you. Build trust in your actions and marketing. People will not continue to do business with people they do not trust. This was part of a talk given by Stephen Covey

2. We had a session by marketing on the profile of our typical customer. Which was useful but I will take away to target the event as well as the customer. All trades have certain events which will trigger a sale.

3. The conference was in Orlando and one thing the Americans out shine us in is sales. I learnt masses about up selling.

4. It is no good just telling people to do something different or change their culture you have to demonstrate it works. 

5. I last went to the international conference 3 years ago. There were two franchisees in particular who were just starting to do well, but they were quite and a bit reserved. They have both embraced the learning given by Mr Electric and are doing very well. They have both really come out of themselves, so much that they were teaching other franchisees. 

6. You can drink the beer till two in the morning and wake up without a hangover. Joking aside there were countless other things and meeting with so many varied businessmen and women, listening to their views has really re-charged the batteries.  

7. The answer for me is YES it was very worthwhile as I will implement a few things I have learnt. There is a certain breed of person and we have all seen them, that tell the bosses it was great and they will implement what they have learnt. You know it is just talk. We all know the type as franchisees though there are far fewer of those than in corporate life.
