The worst possible spot to be in...

The worst possible spot to be in...

My close friend Chris Bolger said something very chillingly accurate to me yesterday...

"You're in the WORST possible spot bro..."

Me: "Yeah I know."

He said something along the lines of: "No dude. You don't know... You have no idea."

At this point, I'm a little annoyed but I listened with open ears.

"You're winning & you have no idea. You're winning and you think you're losing."

He was right.

... I've been down this path before, and MANY of you go through it too.

Let me share what happened [And very likely happening to a lot of you high-achievers.]

?? Set a bunch of ridiculously lofty goals

?? Start Your Journey

?? Run into obstacles

?? Attempt to will your way through

?? Lose your routine

??Get so caught up in the process that you get tunnel vision focus. You're on a mission.

?? Get so immersed in the mission you don't take TIME TO THINK OR HAVE GRATITUDE.

??Constantly feel like something is "Not Right"

??Continually attempt to mollify that restless, nagging feeling

In Your Attempts to "Feel Better," you forget what's important to you

??Lose your compass [AKA "Get Lost"]

?? Without Even Knowing, watch all your habits slip

?? Lose Progress

?? Fall Into a Scarcity Mentality, where you are clinging on to what you have instead of striving for more

?? Lose Motivation because your growth mindset turns to an attachment and fear based mindset

?? Pick-Up Resentments [The World Feels These]

?? Lose even more progress...

?? Until you either HIT ROCK BOTTOM, Relapse into a bender [Food addiction, drug addiction, etc...], or have an amazing friend like Chris Bolger or Oliver Zerges call you out on your shit]

... And you want to know the craziest thing? With all this happening, you STILL probably came close to hitting those initial goals you set. But you dont care.

...

To all my high-achievers --> I URGE you to do the following three things.

It makes me very uncomfortable to type them since I don't do any of them at times.

1?? Acknowledge that what you have is enough to be happy.

Express Gratitude for them. When you can do this, you can attain more than you've ever imagined

2?? TAKE FREQUENT BREAKS.

Your best self is the only one that can make a real dent

3?? Celebrate your wins.

If you constantly feel like you're losing, you will eventually become a loser.

4?? By far the single most important piece of advice I can give you, is NEVER EVER forget who you are. EVER.

The "start your mission … get lost in tunnel vision mode" resonates with me and I find I get so consumed by the big goal that I fall prone to sacrificing the small daily habits that can seem less important but really are equally important: gratitude as you mention, meditation, sleep(!), running (for me).? I know I feel most balanced not only when I set firm boundaries for when I'll attack my goal....but also when I set boundaries that ensure I'll allocate time for the foundational daily habits of success that fuel me to get there.? And then, as you say, get real efficient with the goal-crushing time!? Don't be Winston lol!
