Not all interviews are created equal ...
While some types of interviews can give you the best chance of getting an offer, other types of interviews are a total waste of your time.
Companies schedule up to 50% of all interviews, with this type. It's an interview you want to avoid, because it isn't intended to consider you for hire. It's really a "fake interview".
Candidates offered this kind of interview aren't selected by the hiring manager ... Instead, they're selected by the HR department.
It's called a compliance interview. HR departments schedule compliance interviews with candidates only because they are over?40, unemployed or from a traditionally discriminated against group, to pump up Department of Labor statistics. They ask (or require) hiring managers to conduct compliance interviews, even though the manager has no interest in hiring these candidates.
Sometimes, you can even tell that it's a compliance interview when a hiring manager appears uninterested (and you're a member of a group that HR needs higher interview numbers), only ask a standard checklist of questions, aren't interested in answering your questions, check email, take calls or read texts.
