The worst advice
The other week, I was looking for a new personal trainer. I checked out a few profiles, but one stood out by a mile.
Why?
Her content actually had an opinion.
No fluff. No fence-sitting. No “it depends” energy.
One reel in particular caught my attention:
She said you shouldn’t cook your chicken in olive oil if your goal is fat loss.
She acknowledged that, sure, olive oil has health benefits… but then she doubled down:
"That’s great, but is it helping you hit your fat loss goals? No."
And that right there is why she won my attention (and my business).
Why This Works
1?? She wasn’t afraid to take a stance.
Food and diets are insanely polarizing, but instead of playing it safe, she spoke directly to what she believed.
2?? She spoke exactly to her ideal client.
If her audience was focused on holistic health, her advice might have been different. But she wasn’t talking to those people—she was talking to people who want to lose fat.
That’s what makes her content magnetic.
And that’s what most people are missing when building their brand.
The Problem With Playing It Safe
Too many people post generic, watered-down advice because they’re afraid of pushing people away.
But here’s the reality:
?? Safe, blanket advice won’t build a brand.
?? Being agreeable won’t make people trust you.
?? Trying to appeal to everyone will make you forgettable.
So here’s my advice: Grow a pair and take a stance. ??
Your audience needs someone who confidently leads—not someone who dances around a topic afraid to upset people.
