Worrying about the scale?

Weight on the scale is ONE data point but for some reason it is the one a lot of people fixate on the most and let ruin or make their day
How wild to think a number can do that?
I am personally not at all against using a scale to weigh yourself and I’m also not for only using a scale for data
To remove emotion around the scale we need to be really mindful about our use with it
Sure, you might have a goal to “lose weight” but the scale doesn’t tell you what kind of weight is being lost and it certainly doesn’t paint the picture of how it was lost or gained
That’s the problem

It’s so outcome oriented that it can encourage people to go to great lengths to manipulate what it says such as not eating the night before or restricting food or taking laxatives and doing wild things to just make the number say a little bit less… but this doesn’t even capture the full picture and it’s like you’re manipulating yourself or your body to meet the expectation of you or others or a coach
What matters most is your process because this is what predicts sustainable and repeatable resultsIf someone told you they lost weight by starving themselves you’d be concerned right? So we cannot celebrate a # or ridicule a number. We need to instead focus on how we got thereIf the scale goes up but you’ve done everything you committed to doing or feel super amazing and strong and healthy, should those variables not be prioritized over the number?
If the scale goes down but you’ve gone off plan a bunch and you feel horrible, should feeling horrible & lack of adherence not be addressed?
I see the focus on this data point leading athletes down really dangerous paths often and it makes me sad to know that there are some people who even in their old age are concerned with the number on the scale. Not gunna be me that’s for sure
If I value my health, longevity, how I feel, freedom to move and nourish my body and experience life, then what matters are the choices I make being aligned with thatWeight is simply ONE piece of the puzzle. Track other variables and your energy won’t be so lasered in on that…
