Worry About Yourself

Worry About Yourself

My dear colleague Emilie McCarthy sent me this clip ... and I couldn't stop laughing. And then I wondered why. And suddenly I became very reflective. Capturing here for (my own) future reference ... if for no other reason.

This video will make you smile, but I suspect it will make all of us think as well.

Marketers are paid for a living to help, often to insert ourselves into conversations where people don’t realize we are needed, and to bring our organizations to higher levels of performance. That can be incredibly gratifying.

But like anything, helping others and “fixing things” can become its own kind of addiction.

Sometimes we don’t know our own boundaries, and don’t appreciate or realize that others are doing their own heavy lifting and will come for help when they are ready. I think this is an ongoing challenge faced by all marketing and business development professionals (regardless the structure of our roles), compounded more and more by the present situation.

Be indispensable, yet don’t overstay your welcome.

Something I myself struggle with daily.

I've seen this video and laughed so hard I cried. "I've got it, no thank you."
