Worry about what you can control, not what you can't!
Today I went for a run. One of those cleansing runs. No music, no GPS. Just me and the trail. You see I have been down on myself over the last few days. Self inflicted depression. My focus was off. Mostly from missed deals at work, lack of interest in buying my home in this depressed oil and gas market here in Houston, to learning of a friends father who died in a small plane crash just two days ago.
During my time with the Houston Dynamo, we had just come off of a successful regular season. We had less than a week (about 3 days to my recollection) to sell out our first home playoff match. It was an all hands on deck effort, no matter your roll with the club. The weather outlook was poor and we all wondered how we were going to deliver the boys on the pitch an audience worthy of a championship run. Our Academy Director, James Clarkson put it to us ever so eloquently, as if we were the players, and not the front office. His words: "Worry about what you can control, not what you can't."
You see, I could continue down the road of self pity, wonder and excuses. If only I had done this, but maybe I should have done that? Well as my cousin, Brendon Kraham, not so eloquently put it: "If if's and but's were candy and nuts...it'd be Christmas!" Point being, do not go down the path of "I wish" or "if only". If only I had hugged my dad and mom one more time. If only I had been hired two months earlier, I wish I would have visited that exotic island.
Have zero regrets. Have zero excuses.
So as I made the turn to home during my hour of reflection, I told myself, "Worry about what you can control. Not what you can't."

5 年It’s important to remember it is just difficult to implement. As I get older, I focus more and more on it.
