Worry Because I Can’t Find My Keys?

Many people begin to silently worry about memory issues. For myself, things like remembering where I left my keys or forgetting to bring in the groceries that I had just purchased raised my fears, so I addressed them with my doctor at my next exam. He told me that they are natural and that we become aware of them because they seem to be coming more often. He said that they should not be of concern at my age unless they became significant issues. However, there are things that we can do to help.

1. Regular exercise: Exercise is essential for maintaining good blood flow to the brain, which can help keep the brain healthy.

2. Mental stimulation: Challenging the brain with activities such as puzzles, learning new skills or languages, or engaging in mentally stimulating hobbies can improve cognitive function.

3. Healthy diet: A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can provide important nutrients that support brain function.

4. Good sleep habits: Sleep is essential for memory consolidation, so establishing good sleeping habits can promote good memory function.

5. Stress reduction: Chronic stress can negatively impact brain function and memory. Meditative practices such as yoga and mindfulness can help reduce stress and promote mental wellness.

6. Regular medical check-ups: Maintaining regular medical check-ups can ensure any potential health issues are addressed early on, which may improve brain health and function.

It's important to note that memory issues can also be a natural part of aging for some individuals. If you are concerned about your memory or cognitive function, it is always best to consult with a medical professional.
