Christmas should be about enjoying the zest of life and spending time with the ones you love dearly. This year is likely going to be different due to COVID.
I can’t count how many times I’ve discussed Christmas calories this month with clients and others interested in getting in better shape.
The good news is there are ways to get around the extra Christmas calories and weight gain.
Here are just a few tips.
1) Don’t stress over it. This will just exacerbate mental health issues and the potential for binge eating.
Christmas is one day. Less christmas parties, less events. It won’t destroy your body. As long as you get back on track after Christmas one day…
2) Practice a little portion control but enjoy a big meal and just calculate your weekly calories. Consider lowering calories on other days or practice some healthy fasting protocols (check out the video I posted the other day for more info on fasting)
Another option is reducing 200 calories each day either side of Christmas which equates to around 1200 calories over the week. 200 calories per day can be a few biscuits or a couple of slices of bread.
3) Increase exercise on other days during Christmas week. Go for a brisk walk with the family before or after eating the big meal.
A lot of people have extra time off over Christmas. There won’t be the usual events we’re used to, so use this time to your advantage. You don’t need to exercise for hours. 30-40 minutes of exercise a couple days a week is plenty of calories.
Make a decision on how you’re going to handle those Christmas calories. Make the decision and don’t beat yourself up about it.
