Vienna is the most liveable city in the world. That’s according to the Economist Intelligence Unit’s annual survey, which factors in political and social stability, crime, education and access to healthcare. The Austrian capital halted Melbourne’s seven-year winning streak. Three of the top 10 cities remain in Australia, while three more are in Canada. Copenhagen squeezed in at number 9. ? President Erdo?an says Turkey will boycott American electronic goods, including iPhones. This follows an ongoing spat with the US over demands to release an American pastor held in Turkey. The lira went into free-fall last week — and has lost almost half its value this year — after President Trump doubled tariffs on Turkish metals imports and amid investors' concerns over the country's $350bn in foreign debt. ? Here’s what people are saying.

At least 39 people have been killed and 15 injured in Italy, after a bridge collapsed in the northern town of Genoa. The accident occurred on a major motorway connecting the country to France. At least 20 cars on the bridge plunged off, and people in office buildings under the bridge were also injured, reports The Associated Press. ? Here's what people are saying.

The number of EU migrants working in the UK has fallen to a record low. In the year to June, that number dropped by 86,000 to 2.28m, according to the Office for National Statistics. There was a decline of 117,000 from the eight Eastern European members who joined the EU in 2004, which economists attribute to Brexit and to a strengthening Polish economy. Some UK companies say they’re struggling to fill vacancies. ? Here’s what people are saying.

Novartis has announced a new chief ethics officer. The move to appoint Klaus Moosmayer, who hails from Siemens, comes after the Swiss drugmaker was embroiled in a bribery scam earlier this year and after it admitted to paying President Trump’s former lawyer $1.2m — a deal it now calls a mistake. ? Here’s what people are saying.

Idea of the Day: Launching anything is difficult, so why not invite others to help you get your idea off the ground, writes CEO coach, advisor and author Sanyin Siang.

“No good idea grows in a vacuum. If we have a good idea, chances are, it’s built on other existing good ideas. So if we want to see our idea become even better, why don’t we invite others to build on top of it.”

I just have to agree with the growing number of people that find these kinds of articles are written from a very eurocentric and privileged viewpoint. Most liveable city for who? A single headscarf wearing muslim woman with designs on being a teacher or an east African man who doesn't want to be a cleaner or taxi driver? My thing is this, I'm from a multicultural city and I love to see the results of that bear fruit. How racially diverse are these liveable cities? How many positions of influence are occupied by socially mobile minorities? Where are the success stories? Are these cities equally as liveable for people of colour as they are for white upper and middle class people? Of course Vienna is on the whole better for an Afgani refugee than Kabul but let's take the extreme cases out and see what's left. Noy Martin
