World's largest fish pellets carrier on its way home to Norway
M/S Nyksund was delivered last week from Tersan Shipyard to the shipping company NSK Shipping. The vessel will operate for Biomar in the Norwegian market. M/S Nyksund is now sailing in the Mediterranean and will today pass the coast of Tunisia. Expected arrival in Karm?y is approximately half a week from now. The average speed on the journey home is between 12 and 14 knots.
The goal has always been to create a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution that meets the future needs of BioMar and their customers. NSK Shipping is proud that BioMar once again chose us as a supplier of their finished products. We are looking forward to getting the vessel home and operating for Biomar, says CEO Mats Nygaard Johnsen in NSK Shipping.
The vessel is 81.50 meters long, 16 meters wide and has a total load capacity of 3200 tons. The load is divided between 2,700 tonnes in cargo spaces and 500 tonnes on deck.
With its length and load capacity, M/S Nyksund is probably the world's largest fish pellets carrier on today’s market, says sales manager Thomas Myhre in NSK Ship Design.
The vessel has LNG propulsion machinery supplied by Rolls-Royce, and fitted with equipment for efficient and gentle handling of fish feed. In addition, the vessel is equipped with a dynamic positioning system provided by Rolls-Royce, which allows the ship to unload at fish farms without mooring.
We have a lot of experience and expertise with LNG propulsion. With projects like this we show that there are solutions for both reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reducing fuel costs by 30-40%. We are proud of the work we do for the future of the maritime industry, says Thomas Myhre, Sales Manager in NSK Ship Design.
