World’s Heart Day. What to do for your heart
Yesterday, 29th September, is always World’s Heart Day. This day was put in place to create awareness of heart diseases. But do we know what leads to heart disease or what I will call in this article, sick heart? First of all, I want to celebrate all hearts.
A healthy heart is the desire of every person. We all deserve to wake up feeling happy, grateful, and loved, and our hearts carry out their biological functions effectively.
That is not the case for everyone because life is never black and white or a straight line. Our hearts get subjected to life events changing how they function.
But despite everything that happens in life, how can we maintain a healthy heart?
One of my friends told me therapy is for mad people. That is not true. Therapy is a necessity for all of us to deal with issues that affect our minds and understand ourselves better. How is this related to heart health? If you can control your mental health, then your heart will be safe.
2. Exercise exercise exercise
I can’t emphasize enough how important exercise is to your heart health. Thirty minutes of exercise a day or three times a week will give you excellent results on your heart health. Walk, run, ride bike, lift waits, do steps. Whatever you have to do, move your body for a healthy heart.
3. Avoid stress
Many things cause us unnecessary stress, and this affects our hearts. Friends that bring you stress, cut them off. A family that has decided not to be family block them. If a partner always leaves you stressed, say goodbye to them. Plugging into debt, look for a way out.
4. Balanced diet
This should have been point one, but here we are. I am not saying avoid calories or embrace a plant-based diet. No. Eat a balanced diet. Have vegetables, fruits, fats, carbohydrates, and proteins in your plate. Organically grown vegetables and fruits and grass-fed animal products will serve you best.

5. Sleep
If your body is deprived of sleep, then major functions would begin failing, and this is inclusive of your heart. Prioritize your 6 to 8 hours of sleep every day.
6. Live well with people
Great social relationships bring unfathomable happiness and peace. Most times, people lie to themselves about cutting everybody in their lives. You are a social being, and you can not live alone. You need people around you. Make those relationships worthwhile.
7. Get something to do
What do they say about an idle mind? Idleness will only bring you problems that will destroy your heart. A person who works is not as depressed as that who is idle.
8. Be spiritually strong
Whatever power you believe in, be on good terms with it. Religious people have been found to be less stressed than irreligious people.
9. Trust the process and don’t normalize instant gratification
Rome was not built in one day, so they say. You also did not grow up in one day. Normalize working towards your goals and enjoying every stage of it. One day, you will achieve. Instant gratification will only bring you pressure that will make your heart and mind sick. In other cases, it will get you into gambling and easy money schemes and make you lose everything you have, dumbing you into heart disease.
10. You can’t be happy all the time
Trust me, you can’t be happy all the time. That is not how the world operates. One day you have everything you want, and that automatically makes you happy. Another day, things don’t work out. You are sick, you lose a relative, and you get fired from work. It is not easy to be happy when this is happening. But can you understand it is the way of life and not let it affect your mind and heart? Be grateful for whatever every day throws at you.
In conclusion, protect your heart at all costs. Not being in control of your mind is terrible. And treating heart disease is very expensive.
