World’s First Laptop-Sized Automated People Mover

The WALKCAR? , developed by COCOA MOTORS. Inc. uses thermoplastic materials made with Teijin’s Tenax??carbon fiber and Panlite? polycarbonate alloy resin to create the world’s first laptop-sized automated people mover (APM).

This exciting #innovation has a maximum speed of 15km/h and a range of 7km on a single charge, making it perfect for the inner city work commute. The WALKCAR? measures just 21.5cm by 34.6cm, roughly the size of a 13-inch laptop, and weighs only 2.9kg. There is no need for handles or controllers, as the WALKCAR? is simply operated by shifting your center of gravity, and stops automatically when you step off it.

Made with Teijin’s thermoplastic carbon fibre reinforced laminates Tenax?? TPCL, thermoplastic woven fabric Tenax?? TPWF and polycarbonate alloy resin Panlite?, the WALKCAR? is sturdy but lightweight. Tenax?? offers 10 times the strength of steel at just one quarter of the weight, whilst Panlite? polycarbonate resin is only half the weight of fiberglass but boasts some 200 times more impact resistance. Thanks to the impressive characteristics of these Teijin materials, WALKCAR? is able to combine low weight with high durability - changing the way we move forever with this futuristic people mover that is sleek and compact.

Teijin aims to be a company that supports the society of the future. We develop high-performance materials and offer our solutions to target diverse fields as part of this long-term vision.
