Opus in Artem is pleased to present German photographer Kai Sch?fer, internationally renowned for his spectacular WORLDRECORDS series.

The great albums in music history high-lighted: on record players that partly became legendary too.

WORLDRECORDS is meant to be a tribute to analogue acoustic art, a homage to the warmest, perhaps most sensitive type of sound carrier. In a way – and that makes the photo series so special – it is also a private time machi-ne to the spectator: music as an impulse to remember bits and pieces of one's personal history, a release of former thoughts and feelings. The soundtrack of your life.

From a formal point of view, the precise approach down to the last detail finds its ideal expression in large format. Each groove, each label notice, each tone arm component is oversized and thus nearly tangible. The special light Kai Sch?fer has developed for WORLDRECORDS contributes a great deal to make these effects real.

The photo series the artist started with early in 2010 today includes around 100 pictu-res. The list "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" in the "Rolling Stone Magazine" helped choosing the most adequate titles.

The work on this series allowed him to meet and collaborate with various musicians such as Lou Reed, Neil Diamond, The B-52`s, Joy Division and Metallica.

In this interview the artist talks about his work and some anecdotes of his career.

Albums featured include David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures, Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, Vasco Rossi`s Albachiara, Serge’s Gainsbourg’s Initials B.B., Michael Jackson’s Thriller, The Rolling Stones’ Exileon Main St and The Clash’s London Calling.

Kai Sch?fer, attraverso le sue opere, mette in evidenza i grandi album della storia della musica su giradischi che, in parte, sono diventati anche leggendari.

Il suo progetto WORLDRECORDS vuole essere un omaggio all'arte sonora analogica, un omaggio al più caldo, forse al più sensibile dei portatori di suono. In un certo senso - e questo rende la serie fotografica così speciale - è anche una personale macchina del tempo per lo spettatore: la musica come impulso per ricordare episodi della propria storia personale, la liberazione dei pensieri e dei sentimenti di un tempo. Da un punto di vista formale, l'approccio preciso fino all'ultimo dettaglio trova la sua espressione ideale nel grande formato. Ogni solco, ogni etichetta nota, ogni componente del braccio è sovradimensionato e quindi quasi tangibile.
