World Wetland Day 2022

February 2 is recognized internationally as World Wetlands Day, paving the way for focus on the importance of this ecosystem. Wetlands are critical in the global fight against #climatechange as they represent a significant tool in capturing and storing carbon for long periods.?

In Jamaica, one of the most common types of wetlands are mangroves which are usually found around coasts, ponds, lagoons, and Cays. This ecosystem provides significant benefits such as serving as natural habitats for varying unique species of plants and animals; they act as natural barriers and filters; aid in flood control; and protect coastal areas from storms and hurricanes.?
