World Water Day - "Groundwater: Making the Invisible visible"

World Water Day - Saving water starts at home.

22 March is World Water Day. This day was established by the United Nations in 1992 to draw attention to the fact that access to clean drinking water is not a privilege but a human right. According to Unicef, more than 2.2 billion people still do not have regular access to clean drinking water. [1].

Even though we enjoy excellent drinking water quality: Drinking water protection starts right on our doorstep. This year's World Water Day is dedicated to groundwater under the motto "Groundwater: Making the Invisible visible". For World Water Day 2022, BUND calls for consistent protection of groundwater and warns of an impending drinking water shortage in Germany.[2]?Although drinking water consumption per capita has been steadily declining since 1990, it has been rising again since 2013 and has reached a level of 129l per day by 2020. This includes all activities that contribute to direct water consumption, from brushing teeth to showering/bathing to flushing the toilet. The so-called virtual water - the total amount of water consumed in the production of the food and products we consume - is not included here. Approximately 1600 litres of water are needed to produce 1 kg of bread.

With these unimaginable sums, the question is where to start saving water. We already teach our children many tricks, such as: "Don't let the water run while brushing your teeth" or the stop button when flushing the toilet. Often, these saving rituals lead to new problems for us, such as stagnation in the drinking water pipe or in the sewage system. The consequence: the public utility companies have to flush the sewage system with fresh water.

By developing our electronically controlled cartridge valves for the sanitary industry, we at A. u. K. Müller help to ensure that neither too much nor too little drinking water is used. This prevents stagnation and conserves resources. The additional hygienic aspects of touch-free operation are responsible for the triumphant success of electronic taps in the public sector, but also in private households.
