World is waiting for your undone..
There comes a time in your life where you have loads of ideas and you want to do so much for yourself, which is beyond career, love life or for that matter family. This side of your intellect caters towards your passion.
Every time you think about these ideas related to your pseudo passion while driving back home or on a Sunday afternoon, and you feel like, now is the time to do it. I’ll publish my long pending blog; or get those pair of shoes out and go for trek; or go out next morning to cover sunrise. Then in couple of days, all energy flows out & you give in to the never ending daily routine. That’s where most of the ideas end their journey. Imagine, the innovations or ideas we are loving now-a-days, could have got dropped at the very stage of inception.
I remember watching Elon Musk’s short documentary, where he was asked this question on giving up when he had three rocket failures in a row, and he said he would never give up till he had faith in his idea.
The world would have been very different, without these ideas (which came to reality) and with those which could have come to reality.
So what happens here, why do we consciously fail to pick up these ideas and get them out to the world. I think we are not afraid of picking up these ideas, we push them for future. And why do we procrastinate for better time, because we feel we have a lot of time left. I was (am still) struggling with exactly the same issue for long now. You want to tackle this, but you get pulled back to your daily routine again and again. We still try and make effort, see videos, Ted Talks or read articles on how to beat this aspect of our behaviour & win out of it.
And sometime it works..
For me this happened when I saw one of the talks in my staff meeting, (I have my staff meetings start with one of the informative video and then move forward with business agenda).
Here this guy was talking about a life calendar on an A4 size sheet of paper and have blocks depicting weeks. You will have 52 blocks in rows and 60 blocks in column, where rows are weeks and columns being years, so one row of 52 blocks is one year for you. (With this calculation, a 60-year life span would have 3120 weeks, most of us would have covered avg 50% of it.)
One Sunday afternoon, I made this (little difficult to make it though) and put it on my desk with my current status of weeks being lived (i.e. my exact age multiply with 52 weeks). So I started shading one block every week, and then after couple of weeks the realisation stuck me that my life is slipping quite fast than I anticipated. Its like you can feel the grains of sand slipping out of your hand and you are feeling every particle going out.
From the time I have put it on my desk, I have shaded the 8th week today. Relatively last 8 weeks have gone little more exciting than I thought. I have structured investment of my time towards my passion; worked on the beta version of my website; working on another idea for my new blog (this article will feed into the start of it), and this all happened in less than 8 weeks.
I was working on some ideas for last few years, but I think this life calendar worked for me and could work for you too. So thought to share and do keep me posted how did it go.
Take hold of your ideas and get it to the world… World Is Waiting for your undone!!
