Another Successful World Trade Month ?

This May, SBA joined U.S. partners for World Trade Month promotions to educate and support U.S. small businesses on how international trade can benefit their bottom line and enhance job creation. SBA OIT took World Trade Month international!

As OIT’s signature event, Associate Administrator Dan Krupnick led a historic Small Business Listening Session in Montreal, Canada.? He?heard from?the U.S. small business delegation to the 3rd USMCA Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Dialogue.

For World Trade Month, SBA OIT also partnered with the Census Bureau to tell the inspiring story of SBA’s national Exporter of the Year, Colombian immigrant Felipe Arroyave of Georgia-based Spectrum International .? Arroyave’s small business exports to 68 countries globally and effectively used SBA resources to navigate challenges after opening his small business just before the Covid-19 pandemic.

STEP and SBDC:? Key Ingredients for Specialty Beverage Global Success

Washington state is toasting the success of a recent trade mission for their adult beverage industry.?? ?The Washington Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the Washington State Department of Agriculture led a delegation of businesses that make or distribute craft or artisanal beer, wine, cider and/or spirits to Seoul, South Korea to meet one-on-one with buyers and gain insights into local markets.?Looking to target the Korean market, but without a trade show option, the partners developed a trade mission plan from scratch.? Organizers used an in-market contractor of the WSDA to recruit and vet potential buyers.? Every business was guaranteed at least 5 appointments.? ?

“It is critical for U.S. businesses looking to break into the Korean market to find partners and establish long term relationships,” says Ellie He , International Trade Business Advisor, Washington SBDC.? “Being there with the businesses allowed us to provide counseling, on the spot, and appropriate follow-up assistance back home as we continue to work with these companies.”?

All of the companies on the mission tapped SBA STEP grant to help reduce travel cost and facilitate their participation.?

Near East and North African Leaders visits OIT

On May 15, 2024, SBA OIT hosted a delegation from the 美国国务院 ’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) entitled “Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development a Regional Project for the Near East and North Africa.”?

Sarah L. Bonner from SBA's Trade Policy team discussed entrepreneurship ecosystem support and policies that support small business growth with entrepreneurs and ecosystem leaders from Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Morocco, West Bank, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia.?

Administrator Isabella Casillas G. meets with Japanese Delegation

On May 15, 2024, SBA Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman met with Japan's Minister in charge of Startups Yoshitaka Shindo and Japanese Ambassador Shigeo Yamada to exchange views on innovation ecosystems.

USTR Announcement on Section 301

Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) published a Report and a Presidential Document for the Four-Year Review of the China tariffs under Section 301. In response to the directions of the President, USTR published a "Request for Comments on Proposed Modifications and Machinery Exclusion Process" to receive public comments until June 28, 2024,?and issued a separate notice and call for public comments regarding USTR’s request to collect information in order to consider exclusion requests for machinery for use in domestic manufacturing.?

The call for comments on the design of the information request and proposed exclusion form will be open for public comments on Regulations.gov until July 30, 2024.
