World Tour Insights V: We've reached the farthest point and are halfway through our journey!

In August 2023 we left the Netherlands for a two-year voyage around the world. Supported by our founding partners Randstad and the Municipality of Amsterdam, the World Tour has become a global platform, fostering and advancing key themes like diversity, inclusion and equal opportunities for the next generation.

There are still many destinations to visit and important topics to discuss before we reach our homeport again, just in time to celebrate the 750th anniversary of Amsterdam and the 10th edition of SAIL Amsterdam. In this edition of the World Tour Highlights we like to share some key milestones and upcoming opportunities for you to join us on our journey.

?? Van Lanschot Kempen taking the leap

Van Lanschot Kempen sponsored the first official leg of our World Tour and selected a group of young individuals to sail on the Clipper from IJmuiden to Porto. Through this project they emphasised the importance of inclusivity and diversity within their company, creating opportunities to connect, to discover new talents and to grow.

The mini-documentary that was made about the unforgettable journey of these 30 young individuals is truly inspiring and can be watched by clicking on the image below ??

?? Joined by crew members from our sister ship Shabab Oman II

In Indonesia, we said goodbye to the four crew members of our sister ship Shabab Oman II, who joined us from Shanghai via Hong Kong to Sorong for a six-week (exchange) sail training. Rashid, Ahmed, Tobi, and Dhan, it was a pleasure having you on board, thank you for all the hard work and hopefully we are able to reunite with the entire Shabab Oman II crew at Sail Amsterdam next summer.?

?? On the most watched television news in Sydney

One year after we left The Netherlands, we reached Sydney, the farthest point on our two-year World Tour, where we had an amazing time at the Australian National Maritime Museum. Alongside Tall Ship James Craig, we made it to Sydney’s most-watched television news on the day of our departure. There's a link to the news item at the bottom of this page.

?? The longest stretch we’ve sailed without using the engine since 2020

On our way from Sydney to Denpasar, we’ve been lucky with the weather. We don’t often get the chance to cover such a distance purely by sail. We did 474 hours and 3044 Nautical Miles of uninterrupted sailing! This marks the longest and farthest stretch we’ve sailed without using the engine since we started recording this in 2020.

Floris Spikermann Immink, captain on the trip from Sydney to Denpasar, explains: ‘Our refit and maintenance period before the World Tour marks a significant shift towards sustainability. Since 2020, we’ve been monitoring fuel related CO2 emission (per nautical mile), fuel consumption, the use of HVO/BioFuel and shore power.'

'Beyond fuel and power, our hospitality crew is equally dedicated to optimising every aspect of the ship’s operations for sustainability.’
