World Tour Insights IV: The Clipper goes viral along the East coast of China

In this edition of the Clipper World Tour Insights, hospitality manager Bart van Liempt shares his initial thoughts on our stay in Asia. Our network provider, Marlink, shares their experiences hosting events on board both in Europe and Japan. And Roel Jan van Zonneveld, a master's student in Earth Sciences at Utrecht University who sailed with us during the December crossing, provides insights into his ocean dusk research.

Last but not least; we have two job opportunities to join the Clipper crew in Sydney and new travel destinations published on our website!

The Clipper goes viral along the East coast of China

While our crew is sailing the Clipper to Hong Kong, our Hospitality Manager Bart van Liempt shares his initial insights after the first few weeks in Asia: ‘The biennial world tour, undertaken by the tall ship Clipper Stad Amsterdam, is all about equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion. Connecting and reconnecting the world brings this mission to life.’

‘A variety of businesses and enterprises make use of the ship to share their mission and vision with new partners, thereby strengthening their global network. 'You must connect before you can inspire,' would be the answer from the leaders of these multinationals. The recurring theme in pitches, panel discussions, and networking events, is responsible growth in the most sustainable way possible. To make a difference, you must join forces.’

‘The world cities where we dock respond in their own ways. Shanghai mirrors this sentiment with overwhelming praise. The Clipper goes viral on the Chinese East coast, inspiring the youthful population with the spirit of the ship: a crew consisting mostly of young people from all corners of the globe, choosing their own future and boosting their careers by gaining invaluable hard and soft skills.’

‘On deck, several crew members wave to the filming crowd on the quay: a Polish sailor, a New Zealand quartermaster, a Dutch hostess, a South African engineer – all at the start of their working lives, astonished by the fanfare ashore. They went viral online, shared and liked over ten million times within forty-eight hours. I guess Asia already knows how to connect people and ideas, and it is up to us to seize this opportunity to inspire the new world by connecting it to the old and traditional one of tall ship sailing.’

ps. if you are interested in working with us, please check our latest Clipper Crew Newsletters here on Linkedin, we are looking for a ship’s cook and a 3rd engineer, both starting in August in Sydney this summer!

Our network provider Marlink organised client events in Europe and Asia

Marlink is ready to receive their clients on board the Clipper in Japan

After hosting events on board Clipper Stad Amsterdam, our network provider Marlink stated: ‘We chose to work with Stad Amsterdam to provide our clients in Europe and Asia with unforgettable moments on board the Clipper. Not only does Stad Amsterdam use our network services to keep the Clipper connected - which is a nice perk - but our onboard events, which are a mix of information sharing and networking at sea, have left a lasting impression on our clients.’

‘As our customers are from the shipping industry themselves, they enjoyed the unique moments on board, which in turn supports our strategy to improve customer engagement and strengthen partnerships. Thank you to the whole team and we look forward to our next customer event on board the Stad Amsterdam.’

‘Our customers were welcomed by our Sales Director, Satoshi Onozaki, and given an update that covered our latest advancements in Japan, such as the opening of our regional office with the addition of dedicated local support.’

Set of African dust samples collected for research during the crossing

While sailing the Atlantic Ocean from the Canary Islands to Martinique last December, Roel Jan van Zonneveld, Master's student in Earth Sciences at Utrecht University, collected a set of dust samples for his research. The aim of his study is to identify the main contributing source location(s) and major downwind trends of dust blown across the tropical North Atlantic Ocean during the boreal winter. Click on the photo below to get more insights on the poster Roel Jan created on this important topic????
