A Celebration of Global Sisterhood and Empowerment
Every year, on the 22nd of February 22, Girl Guides and Girl Scouts worldwide come together to celebrate World Thinking Day. This special day is not only about badges and activities but goes beyond to alarm a powerful reminder of the shared global sisterhood and the impact it can make when united for a common cause.
Walking down the pages of history….
World Thinking Day has a rich history that dates back to 1926 which was initially known as the “Thinking Day”. Over the years, it has evolved into a day of international friendship and solidarity. The idea of ‘Thinking Day’ emerged from the desire to connect Girl Guides and Girl Scouts across borders. It was an opportunity for them to think about their “sisters” (and “brothers”) in different countries and reflect on the meaning of Guiding.
On this day, we recognize the impact of Guiding worldwide. It’s a chance to appreciate the diversity of cultures, experiences, and challenges young women face everywhere.
Each year, the World Thinking Day has a different theme. Girl Guides and Girl Scouts explore this theme through various activities like delving into the year’s theme and learning about its significance and relevance. For example, in recent years, themes have focused on gender equality, climate change, and other pressing global issues.
The theme of the World Thinking Day for the year 2024 is “Our World, Our Thriving Future: The Environment and Global Poverty”.

Further, the Girl Guides and Scouts, connect with fellow sisters across the world. Through virtual events, letters, and shared experiences, they strengthen their bonds and celebrate their shared values.
The World Thinking Day is a platform for advocacy, where issues – whether it’s promoting education, environmental conservation, or social justice are spoken out.
On this day of celebrating unity, you can embark on a journey to explore the theme for this year and educate yourself about the global challenges it addresses. Reaching out to Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from other countries and sharing stories, traditions, and experiences would also be an interesting adventure.
Use your voice to advocate for positive change, whether it’s through social media, discussions, or local events, make your voice heard. Remember, World Thinking Day is more than just a date on the calendar. It’s a celebration of our collective strength, resilience, and commitment to making the world a better place!
