WORLD SOIL DAY 2022

WORLD SOIL DAY 2022

World Soil Day is held annually on the 5th of December as a means to focus attention on the importance of healthy soil and advocating for the sustainable management of soil resources. Soils provide most of our food and are central to our planet’s life-support system. At Omnicane, we pride in our endeavours for sustainable agricultural practices including the implementation of effective drainage systems and the adoption of an Integrated Pest Management approach to reduce the use of herbicides, improve soil fertility, manage pests, and control erosion. In context of activities scheduled during its Environment Month this year, Omnicane has organised an awareness talk for its employees on the Theme: ‘Importance of healthy eating, organic backyard gardening and composting’. We believe that education is key to protecting our life-support systems. Twenty inhabitants of Britannia have taken a course in organic gardening over 12 weeks given by Mr. Eric Mangar, Director of Movement pour l’Auto-suffisance Alimentaire (MAA). The aim of this training is to teach communities how to grow crops without using pesticides or herbicides. At Omnicane, we believe in raising awareness on the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being by addressing the growing challenges in soil management, increasing soil awareness and encouraging societies to improve soil health.
