The 19th of June has been declared World Sickle Cell Awareness Day. SCD is a set of inherited red blood cell diseases. Round red blood cells transport oxygen to all regions of the body through small blood veins. The red blood cells in people with SCD grow stiff and sticky, resembling a sickle, a C-shaped farm implement. The life span of RBC in SCD patients is only about 10-15 days and due to a decrease in RBC which fails to contain sufficient amount of hemoglobin. People who have lost a lot of blood due to terrible accidents, new medical and surgical procedures, civil wars, and military wars, as well as people who have become extremely anemic due to serious hematological diseases or treatments like cancer therapy, can benefit from blood donation
After the pandemic lot of people are avoiding blood donations, even without thinking there are others who are also fighting for their life. Fear, a lack of knowledge, and inconvenience, on the other hand, have been identified as the key barriers to donating. As a result, the availability of blood is a major concern for society.
All health-care facilities should have enough blood to satisfy the emergency need for trauma patients and other life-saving procedures like blood transfusions, which save millions of lives each year. As a result, the availability of blood is a major concern for society.
