The World is run by those who show up – Benjamin Franklin

While many people continue to look for the secret to success, having grown our businesses substantially, and having spent time with many hugely successful people, we realised a long time ago that there is no secret, it comes from doing what others aren’t prepared to do, by getting off our arse and working for it…by showing up.

Great things don’t come to those who wait, they come to those who turn up every single day, prepared to do what it takes. We know other people don’t share our priorities, so we don’t wait for them. Most people are scared of direct contact, so send an e-mail, or a message, not us, we knock on doors, pick up the phone, push for action, and we continually kiss frogs.

Most people talk themselves out of action…paralysis by analysis. They think of scarcity rather than abundance, and have a fear of failure. I believe that imperfect action beats perfect inaction everyday of the week. As entrepreneurs, we don’t try to control the sea, we adjust the sails. We’re in a state of perpetual motion. We won’t let circumstance, or change, or government regulations, or fiscal policy, or anything else stop us…we navigate them looking for opportunity until we find it. Being an entrepreneur is our way of life.

This week we landed back in Dubai after a business trip to New York, Miami, and Necker Island. A trip where Leanne and I held meetings with board members, discussed new deals, and refocussed ahead of what will be a busy few months. The people we’ve spent time with over the past couple of weeks aren’t playing it safe, they’re showing up every day and getting things done…our kind of people, and last night we rounded these great few weeks off with an evening spent with one of our mentors, and great friend Dan Pena, a man who, at 79 years old, continues to show up, and his beautiful wife Sally.

We first met the Dan back in October 2016 when Leanne and I attended one of his Castle Seminars. Although we’d heard that only 50% of the couples that arrived together would manage to remain a couple afterwards, we knew it was worth risking as Dan’s approach was what we needed at that time, we showed up. We’ve returned to Guthrie Castle a few times since, including most recently with our son, Mitchell, who despite being only 14 at the time, he showed up. Since meeting in 2016, Dan’s no bullshit approach has played an important role in our growth, and will continue to do so in the future.

Today, our goals and ambitions are even bigger. We only work with people who push for better, don’t believe in excuses, and take action. Success isn’t going to be handed to us, so we work relentlessly in pursuit of it. The World is run by people who show up, and who, in the words of our good friend, Dan Pena, the Trillion Dollar Man; “JUST FUCKING DO IT!”
